Last week the TopTier project came ofiicialy to an end. During the closing meeting in Wageningen the partners discussed the findings of the project. Although not all the work is finalised completely, this meeting completes three years of intensive research into root causes of container loss at sea. During the project, model scale and full scale experiments have been conducted, investigations were done into how ship-crews experience and avoid container loss and numerous calculations were performed to compare lashing module calculations. GBMS has contributed to TopTier by performing an in dept analysis of the risk of mis-declaration and mis-stowage of containers. We were selected to perform these calculation because of the speed of our lashing module.
As a follow up, a submission will be done to CCC11 to contribute to future legislation to make container transport safer.
